UK lawmakers have threatened to imprison social media managers who don’t censor enough content. Governments and allied NGOs intend to force tech companies to comply with their rules. In Australia, a single government official can compel social media companies to remove posts.

In Canada, a state agency can filter and manipulate what Canadians see online. In Ireland, for example, the government may soon be able to imprison citizens simply for possessing material that officials decide is “hateful.” Under the RESTRICT Act in the US, the government may soon have the authority to monitor the Internet activity of any American deemed a security risk. Politicians, NGOs, and their enablers in the news media claim that their goal is merely to protect the public from “disinformation.” But vague definitions and loopholes in new laws will create avenues for broad application, overreach, and abuse.

Under the guise of preventing “harm” and holding large tech companies accountable, several countries are establishing a vast and interlinked censorship apparatus, a new investigation by Public finds. Now, key nations are attempting to enshrine this coordination into law explicitly.Īround the world, politicians have either just passed or are on the cusp of passing sweeping new laws, which would allow governments to censor ordinary citizens on social media and other Internet platforms. The Twitter Files gave us a window into how government agencies, civil society, and tech companies work together to censor social media users. Taking those parts away to never be seen again is tatmount to buring/shredding your old drawings because you hate how poor your skills were back then compared to now.Īs such, I hope this isn't the atittude the creators have moving forward with future endeavors as I may reconsider any continued support.By Michael Shellenberger and Alex Gutentag Pretty much took the words out of my mouth, as this really isn't about whether parts of the story fit or were filler or not so much as sticking up for what you've done and learning to improve on it as you move forward.

Now I have to hang on to my old Humble Download just to keep cut dialogue. Remember that every mistake you make when telling your story is just as important as everything you do right, you learn from them and move on, you can't just make them go away. It shows a lack of confidence and tarnishes the memory of the original work. Some of what was cut makes sense but I simply do not approve of any creator constantly cutting stuff out of a finished work. Originally posted by Sanded:They need to work on adding things not removing them. Now after researching a bit I found hints that this actually might be true and wanted to ask if you can watch those cutscenes somewhere for those who are interested. Serpentine's background, which is also important to understand the main antagonist (Brevon) better, is also present as an official profile outside of the game and is never discussed or brought up anywhere in-game despite its importance.

I just read through an analysis of freedom planet here: and there is a certain par of text which saysĪnd there lies one of Freedom Planet's flaws and one of the reasons behind why its story is panned by some of the players who otherwise have the attention span to appreciate it: A full third of the dialogue and cutscenes were cut, creating plot holes.Ĭut elements include the significance of the Kingdom Stone for the planet before the revelation of its other, more long-term purpose, Lilac's and Carol's initial situation (which is important to give context to their frictions and character development later on), the fact that they're orphans (thus removing context for them relating to Milla), character interactions between Torque and Carol (which would have shown the two getting closer), scenes showing Lilac's flaws (which would have set up her character development far better and most importantly, far more visibly), and most of the finale (Final Dreadnought has a grand total of one intact cutscene and a vital conversation was cut from the ending scene).Įach individual cut is not that big a problem but they add up to cause significant problems, in particular making it easy to overlook much of the story's depth.
